China Dolls Care and Support Association was founded by Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) patients in May 2007. From late 2006, a self-help website named “City of Glass China-Dolls?” has already been opened by an OI patient to help other OI patients. Majority of OI patient families have difficulties to afford the extremely high medical expenses of fracture operation and remedy treatment, and the OI children also face discrimination and isolation. The Association is a commonweal, nonprofit and nongovernment organization. It works to increase the social awareness and understanding on OI, OI patients and other rare diseases, reduce social discrimination, protect their equal rights to treatment, education and employment, and advocate the policy development to increase the social benefits for OI and other rare diseases patients.
Mission: To build a society of understanding and equality for the OI and other rare diseases patients.
Meaning of the name of the Association: The name “China-Dolls” shows the characteristics of OI patients. They are lovely, nevertheless their bones are easily fractured, just like ceramic dolls. Meanwhile, the word “China”, which is also the name of the nation, means the OI patients are an important component of Chinese citizens.
Objectives:
1. Education to raise the social awareness of OI
2. Reduce Social Discrimination
3. Improve the access to Treatment, Education and Employment
4. Set up a social self-help network between patient families
5. Provide legal aid to patients and their families
6. Implement survey and research
7. Promote the policy development on OI and other rare diseases.
